On April 25, 1915, the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) landed on the beaches of Gallipoli, Turkey. They were part of a larger Allied force that was attempting to capture the strategically important Dardanelles Strait. The Gallipoli campaign was a disaster for the Allies. The Turks were well-prepared and the terrain was difficult. The Australians and New Zealanders suffered heavy casualties, but they fought with courage and determination.
